The Stanislavski Studio Course Content

The Stanislavski Acting Studio is a Dublin based theatre training organisation. Founded in 1963, the studio introduces students, actors, directors and theatre practitioners to the principles of the Stanislavski technique.

The Stanislavski system helps to create depth of playing and a nuanced quality as well as robustness and stamina that can be applied to both tragedy and comedy, as well as contemporary theatre practice and experimentation.

The course is made up of acting exercises designed to develop the imagination, the voice, the body, the emotional range and the actors' use of space for performance.

The exercises include:

  • Private Moment on Stage

  • Personalisation of an Object

  • Portrait Exercises for Character work and Period Plays

  • Improvisation

  • Text Analyses

  • Scene Studies

  • Movement Work  to develop bodily awareness in space

  • Classical Voice to develop deeper resonance for performance in different spaces

Through the repetition of the exercises, the actors are given support and feedback in a nurturing environment. Participants are encouraged to work through blocks and arrive at new thresholds in their performance work.

With the training new skills can be applied to monologues, scene studies and full-length shows as well as working in an ensemble.  The actors will work toward performing in scene studies and full studio performances of plays.
